2月のウィンター❄️キャンプ　サステナビリティー🧣その１

みなさん、こんにちは🙋‍♀️

まだ寒さの残るバンクーバーですが、高校生の団体さんが宿泊プログラムでお越しくださいました👏

今回の宿泊施設は、カナディアン・カルチャー遊学でもお馴染みのUBC内学生寮です！

実際に同じ学生寮に泊まっているUBC学生もプログラムに参加したので、宿泊中も生徒様の安心感が少し増したのではと思っています😊

日本は学校期間中ということもあり、5泊の短いプログラムではありましたが、

「帰りたくない！」「カナダに留学したい！」「日本に帰ったら英語頑張ります！」というお声をたくさん頂き、この海外体験の影響力を感じました✨

今回のこの5日間プログラムでは、一貫して「♻サステナビリティ♻」をテーマとし、学習を深めてきました。

実はこの高校さん、🤝いらっしゃる前からオンラインプログラムでUBCバディとご対面🤝いただいていました！

一緒にプラスチック問題についてを議論し合ったバディたちと、実際のご対面でモチベーションもぐんと上がります💓

「私、あなたのこと、一緒に話したこと覚えているよ😄」

とUBCバディに声を掛けられ、驚きと感動を得ていた生徒さんもいました😍

Welcome to UBC! Winter Camp 2023

Hello! My name is Shayna. I am a UBC student studying Music and Education, focusing on English Language Learning and Teaching. I had the privilege of working with the students as one of the UBC Buddies and had such an amazing experience interacting and exploring Vancouver with all the students!

The theme of this camp was sustainability. Students had the opportunity to learn about new sustainable practices in Canada and refine their English language abilities while interacting and exploring the wonders of the UBC campus and downtown Vancouver.

Students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a fully English-speaking environment and experience engaging in conversations with fluent speakers daily. As a UBC Buddy, I had the opportunity to hear presentations about sustainability from the students and provide feedback and corrections on their presentations!

Students learned about the ongoing sustainability practices on the UBC campus during the Scavenger hunt. I loved having conversations with the students as they compared the similarities and differences between the sustainability practices in Japan and Canada!

I was very impressed with how well the students adapted to the new surroundings and improved their English, even over a few days. By the end of the trip, students were more outgoing and engaged in more conversations in English and had a noticeable improvement in their pronunciation, speed of speaking, and ability to understand new English words!

Meeting and making connections with the students from abroad was such a meaningful experience. I enjoyed the time we spent together and will miss the students very much. I hope to meet more amazing students like these in the future!
