クリスマスの翌日は、ボクシングデーといってイギリスやカナダなどでは大きなセールがあるのです。
日本人と比べそれほどお買い物をしないようなカナダ人もこの日はお店に行列をつくったり、大きな買い物袋を持って歩いています。
もともとは、裕福な方が裕福でない方やオーナーが会社の従業員のためにプレゼントをあげたことに由来しているようです。
ただ、アメリカには習慣がなく、いまだに一年で一番大きなセールの日は、サンクスギビングの翌日のようです。

さて、ボニー宅からはこういったメッセージと写真が届きました。

Here are two pictures of our boxing day brunch with homemade waffles,
strawberries, whipping cream, maple syrup, bacon and sausages. Yum!

Our electricity went out on Christmas evening for twelve hours and yesterday
for ten hours. Sylvie （娘さん）wanted coffee so she ground the beans by hand in a mortar and pestle. We used candles and our hiking head lamps for light.
Becca (別の娘さん）is wearing one of the headlamps. We were very glad when
the electricity came back on. Our stove is electric so we were cooking
on a camp stove on the back porch.
